Dream Home

Description:

We've been in our home for a few months now and it's wonderful! We wanted to live in our home for a little while before decorating. Our dilemma is getting motivated to decorate, finding the perfect art work, furniture & accent pieces takes time. The kitchen/dining are just about complete, could use a table center piece and something for the empty countertops....any suggestions? We will be turning our focus to the bedrooms (need some artwork) and Living room which desperately needs decorating!

Dream Home (Original Post): May 25, 2008

Dream Home (Update 1): July 21, 2008

Description:

It's hard to believe two months have past since we demolished our house. Our retaining walls are almost complete, the pool is formed and are foundation footings are just about ready. It sure will be exciting when we get to start building the house. Our new home will be two stories with the focus being the spectacular ocean view from the kitchen & dining area. I will keep posting as the work continues....

Dream Home-Kitchen Design (Update 2): September 03, 2008

Description:

I am re-designing my kitchen and would love some input. The entry is a split level...it may be difficult to see from this floor plan. The entrance takes you upstairs to the kitchen/dining with an ocean view. Kitchen is all windows on ocean side.

Dilemma....I originally designed the kitchen with an island. I am considering changing to a bar which connects to counter on the window side to provide more cabinet space. I'm concerned that this leaves only one entrance into the kitchen.

Dream Home (Update 3): November 03, 2008

Description:

It's so exciting to see how much has been done in a little over a month! All the planning (over 2 years) has paid off. We love the floor plan and all the decisions (and many changes) we've made so far. I've been attempting to "shop with focus" and make all the choices of flooring, cabinets, counter tops, paint...and so much more. It's been fun and challenging at the same time. My hope is that all the individual choices result in a beautiful home for our family!

Dream Home PROGRESS (Update 4): December 02, 2008

Description:

The gutters, roof and windows are installed and look Great! We selected Pella windows and I am very happy with our choices. John Cook Kitchens assisted with the final design and it ended up being "L" shaped. We are very limited with upper cabinet space so this was the best solution. Cabinets should arrive in a month...I can't wait. Now to make the bathroom selections.

Time to Decorate (Update 5): June 20, 2009

Description:

We're really happy with the progress of our home. It's been difficult building a home and trying to live life as usual.
It's time to start decorating as majority of the home is completed. When we designed the home we didn't really think about the decorating part. We've been shopping a lot lately and the choices/decisions are endless. I've had a hard time finding bar stools, rugs & paintings (so many bare walls). We've purchased a couch which isn't expected to arrive until July so we're holding off on decisions for the living room.
I'm happy with the finishes...brazillian cherry wood floor/kitchen cabinets upstairs and ivory travertine downstairs.

Wow a lot of progress has happened. That is a really tall and beautiful rock wall. Love the pool too. Looks like there will be some relaxing in the jacuzzi. How fun! Thanks for posting your updates!

5. easyliving | July 23, 2008

Great to see the changes... What a luxury to have the pool right in the back yard and the beautiful ocean views out your front windows! A lot has been accomplished in just two months. Projects like these take a really long time but you have made a lot of progress so far....keep up the good work!

7. lissa | November 11, 2008

Wow this is really coming along. When do you expect this to be completed? Can't wait to see the finishes.

I just saw your kitchen dilemma. The kitchen looks like it's really going to be the gathering place. Having the open flow floorplan will be wonderful if you're entertaining and everyone's hanging out in the kitchen the way they always do. It looks like it might get a bit cramped in the kitchen if it's closed off and there's more than one person cooking.

WOW - your home is looking great! Love the view from the inside! Now that you've gotten this far...what would you say has been the biggest challenge, and biggest reward in building your dream home? Also, would love to see more photos of the inside...can't wait till you start decorating!

Your home looks absolutely amazing. I love the brazillian cherry floors and pendant lights above the bar. Your place looks like it is really coming along. Have you moved in yet? Can't wait to see more pictures with the furniture choices....they have great bar stool selection at cswo and homeworld.

fwiw, besides congratulating u on a gorgeous home and decorating so far, u obviously love warm tones and a deep natural look, so for ur dining table centerpiece how abt something of low to medium height (so as not to obstruct the viewplane out twd that beautiful greenery, and besides u have tall pieces on the wall) in a rich warm red or gold tone? red wd be more dramatic and contrasting, gold more harmonious. re ur living room, that's a tough one. the main piece, that sectional, doesn't really go w/ the warm natural scheme of the rest of the house, and the black base esp competes w/ the wood tones. don't know.

16. kimconner | November 04, 2009

Thanks for the input...I continue to search for that "perfect" centerpiece which I have yet to find. I agree a warm red or gold tone would look great. The living room sectional base is actually a warm dark brown which appears to be black in this picture. I just purchased an entertainment center in a warm cherry color at Inspiration which will hopefully complement the living room.
