Bedroom - A Guy's Perspective

Description:

This is my bedroom. It's still a work in progress but I'm having fun making it look better and I'm kinda proud of how far it’s come along. After attending one of Kathy and Lissa's RSVPStyle workshops I felt I was armed with the tools and knowledge to take on my bedroom upgrade project. I didn't have much "make it pretty" money because I spent it on all the electronics. The big 50 inch 1080p plasma, audiophile 5.1 theater surround sound system with subwoofer, Upscaling DVD players, HD TV cable box, Quad Core Computer, LCD Monitor, those are the design specification and terminology that mattered to me. That being said I was left with $200 bucks to make my room not look like the electronics department at Costco. With the notes I took from the workshop and terms like find your inspiration, color palate, textures, color complements I said what the heck “If Can, Can… If No Can, No Can”. I’m a resourceful person (okay let’s say cheap) so with a can of paint and things I bought from Ebay, Ross, Costco, and photos I took but never framed I was on my way. I posted my progress so far and I have things like lighting and wall colors I want to change but that’s for a future upload to RSVPStyle. Going to the workshop I learned things that helped me develop my own style. You can pay someone to tell you their style or go to a RSVPStyle workshop and have a lifetime of tools to enhance your own god given sense of style. Go to the workshop and be proud to discover If Can … CAN! - Garrett

Thanks for the compliment. I can tell your inspiration was the audiophile equipment. It's great to see your work in progress and what you did on a budget. I'm glad you are having fun in the process. We love to hear how our workshop attendees got inspired, develop their style and take what you learned and apply it. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what you do next.

holy s...mokes! did i see that u pulled the slate blue-and-red color scheme out of the accent rug?? u popped the red accent w/ the cushion on the bed, AND matched the contemporary style of the rug w/ the bedspread? all tying in w/ the the matte silver megaloads of latest-tech gadgets? and u even have black trim accents! i think that's pretty advanced. unbelievable. (altho i do have to ask, what is that ming vase doing there?)

Popeye you are good! Alright I'm busted on the ming vase thang. I have a wine rack that I normally have in that spot (more functional to me) but it looked too short so I borrowed a ming vase from another room. Good eye ... That's too funny you spotted my sell out to da man compromise for the picture. Gotta keep my game up with sharp people like you watching. Thanks for your comments and keepin me real! - G

come on aloha--that ming vase is an antique or a reproduction. totally traditional/rustic asian and while blue (wrong blue), it is the one element not in keeping w/ ur otherwise totally cohesive contemporary scheme. i think u just need a MUCH bigger wine rack ;D

I would recommend a headboard....maybe something in a dark wood. If your room is small.....keep the footboard low. Some nice artwork above the bed.....make it a larger piece would be nice or some wall sculpture. More pillows on the bed would be more cozy....maybe a bolster that runs the span of the bed would be nice. Have you considered putting a plant in the room to make it more cozy? How about some super small side tables with small lamps? Would tucking the rug under the foot of the bed "ground" it better?

A bit too much blue. How about taking the yellow in the rug to tie in with a yellow/gold bedspread?

Really like the shutters and using the table for your computer to make the best use of the space. Window coverings can make it seem smaller and the shutters seems to open up the room. Nice job!
