Outdoor Sizzle: Creative, affordable tablescapes that pop
On glorious summer evenings, who doesn’t want to enjoy al fresco dining in style?

In this two-part series, I’ll be bringing you three easy, outside-the-box tips for creating unique outdoor centerpieces. Let’s start with these amazing polymer crystals. They’re called Crystal Accents, which Designed to Perfection’s Melissa Blake turned me on to. You won’t believe the effect they create!
These are actually water-storing crystals. All you do is pour some crystals into a votive or vase, add water and wait four hours. The crystals will absorb the water and take on the look of crushed ice. Best of all, they’re reusable—just dry them out, store, and rehydrate when you need them again. I got this jar for $16 at Flora Dec. It’ll make gallons and gallons of crystals.
The crystals come in a range of dramatic colors. You can also use them to anchor fresh or silk flower centerpieces. They actually feel soft like jelly, and they won’t burn, so you can just submerge lit tea lights into them—how cool is that!
Don’t they look amazing with the tea lights inside? Now for some layering. Make the votives pop off your table by adding some fresh greenery underneath, like this monstera leaf. You can even place a fresh flower or two on top.
When the sun sets, voila! Beauty, drama, romance—how’s that for wining and dining in style?
