The Chinese New Year starts on February 14, 2010 and is the year of the White Metal Tiger. It’s the perfect opportunity to redirect, refresh and balance the energies in your home and business so that you can set a positive tone for the rest of the year.

In traditional Feng Shui, we use the Chinese compass and the Flying Stars (a mathematical calculation of time and space) to determine the positive and negative energies of the year. Since energy is in constant flux, it’s strongly influenced by the annual stars, the energies of the current lunar year. By understanding the unique energy blueprint of your home, and the effect of the annual stars, you can improve the quality and flow of energy around you and bring greater health, wealth and balance into your life.

What does the Year of the Metal Tiger hold for us? Here are the top dos and don’ts for building, remodeling or decorating in 2010. Let’s start with what not to do.

    DON’T:

    • Break ground in the southwest of your property. The disaster star holds some of the most challenging energies, and in 2010 it comes to the southwest. Do not do any major renovations or loud work in this area. To weaken the effects of the negative energy here, use metal cures like wind chimes, a bell or a gong in brass, copper, silver or gold (or things in those colors) and avoid any fire element items like candles, rock-salt lamps or anything red, like flowers or a rug.
    • Disturb the northeast: The illness star is in this sector. Again, use the metal element and avoid the fire element.
    • Touch the south: In 2010, the legal star will be here. In this case, a fire element will help to neutralize the negative energies and burn away legal issues.

In general, major remodeling or building in these areas could stir up trouble, so keep these areas of your property quiet this year.

    DO:

    • Remove your clutter! Whether it’s hidden or in plain view, clutter should be your top priority. Clutter drains your personal energy and blocks the flow of chi or universal energy. Clearing it allows good energy and wealth to flow into your property.
    • Feng Shui Compass
    • Activate the energy of wealth in the center of your property. In 2010, the number 8 or money star comes into the center of the house, making it one of the most auspicious sectors. Incorporate things featuring the fire element colors of red, pink, orange and purple here. Use crystals such as amethyst, rose quartz or a rock salt lamp to stimulate the wealth area.
    • Display images of romance, creative projects, travel destinations and long-term goals in the north. The number 4 star of romance and creativity comes to this sector. Blue, black and green are good colors for the north this year.
    • Enhance your happiness. The fortunate number 9 star (of the fire element) comes to the northwest. Use nine pink flowers, candles and happy images to enhance the already happy potential and auspicious energy here.

Living in good, harmonious Feng Shui means you’re surrounded by a healthy and vibrant quality of chi. Capitalize on auspicious energies in your home and business and create a year filled with abundance: harmony in your family, success and powerful breakthroughs in your professional life, and most importantly, vibrant health.

You can start placing your Feng Shui cures now. To achieve the best results, you have to know the energy blueprint of your property—a combination of its birthdate, energy and other factors—and how the annual stars will affect its particular characteristics.
