WINDOW TREATMENTS
Dilemma: A large expanse of jalousie windows needed window treatments that would not overwhelm that side of the room.
Solution: The Agenas opted for drapery. We looked for a fabric that was subtle because the windows were a huge feature running the entire length of the left wall, and there would be no window treatment on the opposite side of the room. Finally, we didn’t want the space to be too dark; we needed to allow light to shine through.
Neutral colors would complement the rest of the room, but a solid would have been too flat and uninteresting, without providing any contrast for the solid-color sofa that would sit in front of the windows. A slight pattern would allow the sofa to stand apart while adding texture to the room.
We found a luxurious polyester fabric with a subtle pattern of lines and curves running through it, in ivories, creams and light tans. We took a sample to the Agenas’ house see how it would look with the sofa.
The taupe lines in the fabric tied in nicely with the color of the sofa.We decided to hang the curtains all the way down to the floor for a more flowing, dramatic effect. Hanging them only halfway down, to the bottom of the jalousies, would have stopped the eye short.
Our solution allows in light, adds texture to the space, and serves as a beautiful backdrop for the grownup seating area.
