When selecting your architect, make sure you feel comfortable working with him or her.
Plan your project early. There is no such thing as starting too early. Delays come in all forms and will take you by surprise if you are not prepared.
Cost overruns are common. Budget at least 20% extra for contingencies, then stick to your budget.
