- What materials do you recommend for my kitchen countertops?
- The short answer is the gold standard—granite—because of its looks, durability and value. Properly fabricated and installed granite will give a kitchen that extra flair. Look in the real estate section of the newspaper and you’ll see “granite kitchen” as a big selling feature. While marble countertops require a little more attention than granite, there is an increasing demand for them. The look and feel of natural stone can make an ordinary kitchen extraordinary!
- I heard you have to seal granite/stone about once a year.
- Newer sealers can seal granite/stone for 15 to 30 years. It takes a one-time application, usually at the time of installation. These sealers work great to prevent water and oil-based stains.
- I would like to replace or renovate my countertops with granite or marble. What do I need to do and look for?
- It is always a good idea to hire a licensed and insured professional with a good vision for your project. This professional should look for details that can make your home a place you are proud of. Also, make sure they have the right machinery to provide the best possible finishes. Some machines are designed for speed and others for quality: the outcome is measurably different. While it is extra work to check, make sure they use the best materials (epoxies, diamond pads, diamond blades, etc.) to ensure years of beauty and durability. And it goes without saying: look for a record of good customer service that meets your needs and understands what you want to accomplish.
