Design Dilemmas / Offices

my office space

Description:

Help, My office is too white! I need to tie the front space to the back space as seen in photo #3 and want to add warmth. My carpet and reception desk is a blue/gray/green color, what would go well with that?

I think putting the same color on the pillars as the back accent wall would make the pillars blend into the space rather than stand out so much. It would also tie the sections together. As for color, it sounds as if they are on the cool side, maybe pick out a few paint samples. You can also buy little sample cans to test on your wall to see better what it will look like. Hope that helps, nice office though.

Have you thought about painting the columns a softer shade like a warm tan color to soften the stark white. Are they structural and for support? If not maybe you could remove them to open up the space a bit more.

way too much white! it's a stark, bright color, not conducive to relaxation and healing. i agree w/ lissa--if they're not holding up the ceiling, get rid of the columns! now, if they ARE holding up the ceiling, i think you need to punch up a color scheme. decide on 2 or 3 main colors and make one dominate. if you keep blue-green-gray, for example, the colors of your reception desk, try pulling out one of these colors to repeat on the columns. this would make them blend in better, as well as tie the space together by spacing out same-color features.

So far I painted the back wall a soft blue to match the carpet. What do you think about painting the columns or sofet the same shade?

dr dan, nice job! that blue on the walls is so much more calming somehow--bc it looks like the sky, maybe, so feels more natural and open? anyway, how abt changing that towel on the bench/table underneath to a darker complementary blue? also ur columns--i'm thinking a couple shades darker blue than the walls, tho not v dark.

What a difference paint can make! I really like the soothing blue. Still, the columns are too bright. Not sure what to do to tone them down if they are structural. How about faux marble???

Love the blue walls....Soft and a nice accent. Compliments what you do in your office. The columns are a classic look. If you really want to keep them let them be your inspiration of a continuous flow throughout the office. They do lend to a different look than most conventional office spaces have. Consider if they take up space that you may be able to use for something else. Color? I wouldn't paint the columns the same as the back wall. I think that would not distinguish them from the entry of the front office like you want. If you want to add warmth a medium to light brown (test some out) might be the answer. ( Faux marble will give it a cold feeling. ) Keep having fun with it. Love the progress.
