Design Dilemmas / Bedrooms

My bedroom needs SERIOUS design therapy!!!

Description:

My bedroom - other than the obvious mess (I will attempt to get better pictures of the problem, and less of that awful mess which has been removed) - is a complete disasterpiece! I have one horribly painted red - Cranberry Crush - wall, and you can see the plaster on the sides and such - it looks TERRIBLE. And the rest of the walls are dreadful wood paneling from the early 70's. I have black blankets hanging in the windows because the windows are basicly a hole in the wall where someone decided to put glass. I have no baseboards, so you can see where the carpet was installed - or not so much installed. It was put in without foam, and was really old before we even got ahold of it - it has the same color theme as the wood paneling... I need to change this space to feel better about it and don't have the first clue as to where to start! I'm a very modern/romantic type of girl, love sunflowers, roses and jasmine and like to incorporate them - yes, I know it's an unusual combo. I like black and white, and was thinking maybe cerulean blue would look pretty fabulous with the two... I'm on a very tight budget, and need to know how to make this change cheaply. If anyone has any ideas, that would be completely awesome!

Aloha, I would say that the first step on making your room feel better would be to buy plastic storage containers at wal-mart or target. If you stack them equally, they could make a great little table in your room and it will let you have more counter space and less clutter. As for the red wall, red is a very hard color to put in a room and have it work. Red is more an accent color for a kitchen, play room, etc. Bedroom colors are more cool and relaxing. Here's some good information on Feng Shui in the bedroom for you, it's helped me a lot! Feng Shui bedroom colors The golden rule for Feng shui bedroom colors is to avoid loud and overpowering colors. Violets, lavenders, yellows, blues, whites and grays can contribute towards making your bedroom soothing and restful. Since sleeping is a yin activity, the feng shui bedroom colors must not be stimulating so as to prevent peace and rest. Sharp angles and geometric shapes can also be avoided in the bedroom. Let the bedroom be bathed in a color palette that isn't too hot or too cold. A warm soothing atmosphere can be created with the right blend of colors, lighting and furnishings. As for the wood in the room, try softening it up with colorful art on the walls, a light bed spread, and a colorful floor lamp. I wouldn't recommend painting your brown dresser, that would only turn out bad! As for the windows, carpet and structural things, there is no easy fix for those unfortunately! Your best bet for this room is to simplify, put things in boxes, paint that wall a more feng shui color, and choose your art wisely to offset your very wooden room. I hope this helps!
