We're building a new open-plan house. The kitchen is open to the roof. We've realized that standard kitchen cupboards are going to look lost stuck the wall below a large vault. Any radical design ideas?

Have you considered building a soffit at the kitchen walls or around the whole room. Our living room/kitchen has a 10' top plate and we made a 2' soffit at 9'. We also have a cathedral ceiling although not very steep. We roughed in 4" reccessed lights in the soffits above the counters. I don't think it would have looked as good without the soffits. If you'd like I could post some pictures also.
