Design Dilemmas / Homes

Furniture Placement

Description:

I just bought this house and these are before pictures. There are different floors and it was just painted. This is a living room and dining room. The living room under the fan and the dining room under the light fixture. With the TV wall that is offset due to the master bedroom entrance on the right. If I place the prospective furniture centered directly under the fan and light fixture will the TV need to be offset to the right or will it look lopsided if it's centered on that wall? Or do I center the living room furniture to the TV wall?

Mahalo,
Sharon

Hi Sharon, can you upload a wider shot of the living room with the TV wall included so we can see how the furniture may look lopsided by centering with the fan if the TV is on the wall? Also, like popeye, how many furniture pieces do you plan to put in this area?

Congratulations on your new home! It looks fresh and inviting...even without your furniture! Here are your options: First, you can center the TV on the wall if it is large in scale and will not feel "lonely" there. Being lopsided is not a problem, as long as your family can enjoy the TV from the living room. Your second option is to balance that space by having a tall plant or other large piece that can take up space on the left side of the wall and move your TV over to the right, closer to the living room side of the room. BTW, I noticed that you have paint swatches taped on your TV wall. That's great, but you may want to paint a few color options directly on to that wall to see how it looks, or paint it on to a board and hold it on to the wall before making a decision. Most people find it difficult to select colors off of such a small swatch. Keep in mind that in that small square, the color seems very concentrated, and over a larger space it will not feel as dark. Also, when you are looking at the color against your white wall, it will also feel more harsh than it really is. Have fun and good luck - keep us posted with your updates!

What color did you paint the walls?
