Description:
This was once a beautiful walkway to the front entrance of the home. It is now cracked in many areas and grout has been dislodged and cracked. There was a lot of algae, and the power washing caused much of the pieces to come apart. Perhaps we should have not power washed. Oh well, it's too late now. Any recommendations on how to remedy and fix, and ultimately beautify the walkway again?

I think that a good stone company can actually repair the grout by taking some out where necessary, laying a new layer over it all, and then seal the stone to make it beautiful again. I would suggest trying to keep the natural hues of the stone if at all possible. It may cost more, but you will end up with a fabulous walkway.

I'd contact a landscape or tile person to see if it can be regrouted using a color that is found in the sandstone instead of the gray color. This way there will be a more natural feel. Then perhaps the sandstone can be sealed to keep the algae, etc. at bay.

I agree with Lisa. Get a couple of estimates from a stone professional to have the grout removed, replace it and then have it sealed. Stone needs to be maintained with a sealant to protect it from wear and the elements.

I agree that the grout should either be replaced or fixed. After that I would look into a process called concrete staining. Because the stones look as if they have mold spots you could find a concrete stain and dye all the stones the same color. This will look more natural than painting them. There are lots of colors to choose from and you could go for an earthy looking color such as dark brown or gray.
