Design Dilemmas / Homes

COLOR UPDATE - it's taupe, white, aqua & black

Description:

UPDATE BELOW. We've remodeled the insides now working on the outside... the house is located in manoa valley, the new siding is board & batten and shown in pics with primer coat only. The lower portion that is still grey painted cement blocks but will be faced with cedar shingles. I NEED HELP WITH THE COLORS... I'm thinking of going with a taupe paint and ivory trim around the windows -- possibly a darker taupe on the lower shingle area. Do you have any suggestions? We'll be ready to paint soon... please let me know your ideas. THANK YOU!

1 month later -- the house is painted, and we're relieved it turned out quite nice. we used benjamin moore - rustic taupe on the board and batten, a darker shade of taupe - northcreek brown on the shingled area below, trimmed the windows etc with dove white, outlined the doorsills with stratton blue, the front door is black with brushed silver hardware. black will be picked up again with the steel fence and the front gate (not pictured, still being made) at the top of the stairs will be stratton blue with decorative hammered black steel hindges. oh - ignore the missing rail, we have that section on back order, it will be finished later this week.
thank you all for your suggestions and great ideas! it's wonderful to have help... aloha all!

I don't know about Manoa Valley but where I live (Kihei on Maui) it is "Red Dirt Land" so white is not the way to go! It always looks so clean & fresh at first and then the red dirt just soaks in... you can't even scrub it off. Maybe jut taupe on taupe with the trim slightly lighter or darker.

Manoa is def not "Red Dirt Land." I like the idea of a darker taupe, it would make you stand out among all of the white and cream houses in Manoa!

White and dark taupe sound great. But are you in a really rainy, mildewy area? If so, there may be some areas more prone to mildew and you may want to go with a darker color. Just a thought.

I think taupe is great, then you focus on the style of the home and surroundings rather than a color that jumps out at you. Take a ride around your favorite areas and see if there are any particular color groupings that really jump out at you. Also, some of the paint stores (or paint websites) will let you download a picture of your space and try out different color combinations.

I think taupe and white might be a little too light...I'm not sure how dirty your exterior walls get, but the dirt will definitely be more noticeable if your walls are taupe. I would go for a light blue with white trim.

The green taupe colors are nice, but make it darker than the lighter colors, and keep the color solid, not striped! White uder the eves would be really nice, to set them off and to feature them. Red dirt won't get that high, or?

The light beige/taupe with white trim creates a fresh, clean look and would look really perfect with your architecture. This will be a lovely home!
