Furniture Grow Up

Description:

The furniture needs to grow up. Have any ideas?

Our daughter is in school now and we're ready for the next phase. Crayons have been put away and yogurt doesn't get spilled on the couch. We'd like a more sophisticated look.

I love the accent wall and surfboard but with such a high ceiling you may consider including other accessories or tall plants that draw the eye upwards.

Maybe if you try some beach or island furnture and add some palms it will add a tropical feel to match the surfboard you have featured on your wall. ...which I love btw. I think that's very cool and bold to feature something you love in your living room.

Have you thought of some type of water feature behind the surfboard coming down the whole wall? Also, maybe placing the surfboard at an angle wouldn't accentuate the height of the wall has much.

I would take out the lazy boy chair and change the lamps to island style and add some palm trees.

Cool board. Have you riden it?

You have too much wood and too many brown and beige tones! With a high ceiling, you need colors and features to bring down the height for a cozier feel. Hanging the surfboard at a vertical angle accentuates the ceiling height, especially on a narrow wall. I'm only a beginner, but how about a warmer color than the current cool green on those walls? Also I'd move the surfboard or angle it much more horizontally, with one or two other non-wood art features on the same wall arranged for more horizontal emphasis. Agree with plants suggestion to soften space. Also how about an accent color to pop and brighten?

Unfortunately, the board has not been used yet. Thanks everyone for your comments. We hope to work on this project this year. Keep the ideas coming our way.

anne? that screen! it CANNOT be relegated to the side of the room!! it's beautiful, textural, adds depth and perspective w/ its intricate carvings--can u move it to behind the sofa, or wd that be blocking a view? HIGHLIGHT it, is what i'm saying!!

I recommend adding some additional artwork on the tall wall, or a carved screen to add some texture and interest.

The surfboard wall is crying for an accent color!

The couch at the bottom of the stairs blocks the flow. I would move it to the opposite side of the other couch, or get a more modern, low-back sectional couch which would tie the space together. Wonderful space!

How about white walls, dark wood furniture and white comfortable couches for a mediterranean look? Also, surfboard needs to be moved to office or family room.
