Week 6 Winners - George Family of Mililani

Abigail and Ben George with daughter Hallie and their dog

Our beige carpet has hints of dark brown.

Abigail George entered the $30,000 Style My Room Contest secretly, hoping to surprise husband Ben. But no one was more surprised than Abigail when she got the call last Saturday telling her she had won this week’s prize!

“We were actually driving, so I had to pull over,” she says. “I turned to my husband and said, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day!’”

Abigail squealed and did a little happy dance right in the car: She and Ben have won $1500 in carpet and installation from The Floor Store, along with an RSVPstyle Deluxe Style Kit valued at $299.

“We only got our house last March, and yet the carpet has been through so much! We have a 6-year old daughter, Hallie, and a dog, so it’s a very active household. We need to find something that will work with us messy eaters,” says Abigail. “Since we have a mortgage, we decided that if we got a present for each other this year, it had to be for the house. So this was a great Valentine’s Day gift!”

Marc Haine of The Floor Store is excited to be a part of making this American dream come true.

“I would probably recommend a carpet with the Stainmaster treatment so it cleans easier,” says Marc Haine of The Floor Store, which also cleans, repairs and installs any flooring. “The best product for such an active family would be a carpet called Kid Proof, by Mohawk, which comes in tons of colors and has a protective layer so stuff doesn’t sink into it.”

The Georges met on MySpace in 2006, but Ben was deployed to Iraq shortly afterward. With him stationed in an area that had no e-mail, the couple was forced to communicate the old-fashioned way: handwritten letters.

This used to be a screen door. And it actually used to work.

“That broke both of us down and helped us realize we wanted to be together,” Abigail says. They got married in 2007.

“Ben is very goal-oriented, and wanted to own a home by the time he was 25. He bought this home at 24,” says Abigail, a program specialist/case manager who works with at-risk youth for the City and County of Honolulu. “He grew up in Kalihi Valley Housing—so living in Mililani is a big step. When I saw the contest on HonoluluAdvertiser.com, I decided to enter for Ben, to help him complete his American dream as a homeowner.”

The back wall of our living room. Notice the great color of white? And the lovely one of a kind living room piece-the bowflex.

“The Floor Store is excited to be a part of making this American dream come true,” Marc chimes in. “We do a lot of work with the military, helping their families come home to a better environment than it’s ever been. It’s such an honor to serve the people who serve our country. I feel good about helping.”

Abigail is also looking forward to using her Deluxe Style Kit. “I subscribe to these decorating magazines, but they are all mainland-based. The photos just don’t match our style,” she says. “I want to know how to use colors and create flow throughout the house. I hope the Style Kit helps us find our niche.”

There’s just one more week left in the $30,000 Style My Room contest—one more runner-up prize, and then the Grand Prize! If you haven’t entered yet, what are you waiting for?
