PLANTS ADD LIFE

Dilemma: The living room before was lifeless in color and devoid of any organic form. The remodel gave it a color scheme that was warm and earthy, but neutral in tone. Even with little pops of orange accents, the room still needed a sense of life.

Before After
Console Table

Solution: Adding some well-placed plants gave the room vitality, freshness and a sense of balance. Given the Agenas’s choice of a dominant contemporary style with clean, angular lines, plants also provided soft, flowing, organic relief for the eye.

The short wall that divides the living area from the kitchen and dining area was formerly a backdrop for a water cooler and wall calendar. The cooler found a new home in the kitchen; replacing it now is a fresh areca palm sitting in a beautiful glazed ceramic pot. The curves of the leaves provide softness and height, and the plant’s fullness creates beauty and interest against the outdated single-wall construction that remains on this side of the space.

By the front door, an artificial grassy mound sits in a glass vase Overall living room with plantatop the console table that defines the entry area. It’s low-lying and subtle so as to not distract from the focal point beyond.

With the left side of the room weighted with wall-to-wall drapery panels, the strength and vibrant color of the tall silk plant in the far right corner add a sense of balance.

So does the low, full plant that sits in a metal container to the right of the glass art focal point. With a tall woven basket standing on the other side, the plant lends balance to the focal point wall.
