Day 6: Bunnies on Board: Easter at Sea
Cathy Happy Easter! Today was our first full day at sea. The ship had all kinds of things planned and prepared, like chocolate Easter bunnies all over the place for the girls…
Lissa A great brunch buffet…
Cathy Here I was thinking about the girls and Lissa’s thinking about food!
You know, I’m really not a buffet person. I like good food and I like it HOT—I don’t like things sitting out for a long time. But the Crystal buffets I have to say are really special.
Lissa I thought the spread was very pretty with the ice carvings.
Cathy Every Easter we try and make it special for our girls, we dye Easter eggs and have Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets. This year there was no way we were packing all that stuff, so it was nice that Crystal had this.
Lissa That morning Megan was so excited because she wanted to put on her first outfit of the cruise, her Easter outfit. Keri and Nicki looked so cute in their Easter dresses too. We were on a ship out at sea with our families, this was a nice day. And that fabulous brunch!
Cathy We had to work off all that food and the chocolate bunnies. We went to the Hollywood Theatre. No one was there and there was no movie playing, so the girls wanted to dance and put on a show for us—
Lissa Aunty Cathy couldn’t let them dance alone. She wanted to give them her own dance lesson, shake her booty up on stage—
Cathy I wanted to break out my old school moves! I still got it, I have to say, although the girls were laughing at me and I don’t know what that meant.
By the time we finished we were coming up on our first formal evening…
Lissa That takes a lot of time for me to get ready for that.
Cathy Are you admitting you need a lot of work?
Lissa I take half the time as you, let’s say that!
Cathy But for me it’s not work! Anyway, our little girls are all the same—they love to get dressed up. Like mother, like daughter! They wanted us to spend as much time on them as we spent on ourselves. So we had to get the hair and makeup going.
On formal nights on Crystal the guys wear tuxedos, the girls are in evening gowns. We took some pictures with our families—I mean, how often do you get formal pictures taken?
Lissa It’s a big feat to get my husband to wear a tuxedo and wear it right, so I want to capture it. Then it’s fun, too, to look at all the portraits they put up in the gallery.
Cathy The menu that night was sumptuous. It was surf and turf—there was a choice of broiled fresh Maine lobster, chateaubriand, and being that it’s Easter, they had the traditional ham baked in a sourdough crust. Most of us couldn’t choose, so we decided on surf and turf. Can you believe my dad had six lobster tails? Six! I don’t know what his cholesterol level was after that dinner.
The evening ended with fun for the kids as well. They had their own formal party in the Luxe nightclub. While we were having our dessert they were dancing up a storm. By the time we showed up they had gotten together with some new friends and created a dance routine to show us! It was a fun first night.
